The Art of Being Well explores a wide range of mental health services, substance dependency/misuse issues, and harm reduction initiatives. It is produced by volunteers who have the perspective of a ‘lived experience’ and features true life stories; interviews; features whilst also covering a range of performing and creative Arts.
The Art of Being Well started life as a monthly podcast under the VCS Cymru – Community Media umbrella. After the 3rd episode the format had expanded onto the Radio Cardiff airwaves, with the addition of music.
The first 15 minutes of the show always start with a reggae/dub mix by DJ Steady Jay before moving into the presented section for the remainder of the 2 hours.
Jay Walker is a regular attendee at various service user forums, and is the vice-chair for the Cardiff & Vale drug and alcohol service user forum, (ASFA-CARDUF). He also attends national conferences representing Cardiff. Jay has a wealth of knowledge on local substance misuse services, commissioned drug and alcohol services, recovery frameworks, and keeps up to date with the latest research and trends. He is also passionate about harm reduction, recovery, and mental health, as someone with lived experience.
Jay is also a volunteer trainer for a social enterprise (Nu-Hi Training) that specialises in training to support people with drug and alcohol issues.
